Entrepreneurs Make Less Money – So You Better Love it

I’m sitting here at Starbucks early on a Saturday morning. I’ve been here since about 7:45 AM (it’s 9 now) and predictably it’s been pretty dead in here. I’ve been sifting through emails, doing a little programming, and now writing a blog post. I’ve never accomplished more than I have in this past week, and I’ve thus never been happier or more comfortable with my future and the overall direction of Pure Adapt. I’ve wrote about this before, but if you take a snapshot of my life as an entrepreneur and a snapshot of what it would’ve been like had … Continue reading

Detailed Image Redesign

Lately we’ve been spending a lot of time improving our shopping cart for Detailed Image. When we launched the site back in September our primary goals were to get the site indexed properly and to automate the back-end shipping process. We built the cart from scratch in only a few months, so there were obviously things that were neglected. I’ve been going back and cleaning up code, fixing all of the minor bugs and inconveniences, and programming features like an affiliate program (soon to launch). We also rushed the design of the site. It served its purpose and looked good, … Continue reading

Fighting for a Double Bottom-Line

Every entrepreneur gets their passion from somewhere different.  For some, the thought of wealth and independence is what fuels them, and that’s fine.  But the most successful entrepreneurs I’ve encountered truly believe that their endeavours are going to change the world and help improve people’s lives. For-profit businesses force innovation and that that’s a good thing.  The majority of technological innovation comes from the for-profit world, and without it we’d be in trouble as a society.  Diseases have been cured, transportation problems have been solved, and education has been broadened all from for-profit ventures.  I love the for-profit world, and … Continue reading

If I Had To Start Over…

Let’s just say hypothetically that Pure Adapt fell apart tomorrow and we lost everything and I was left with nothing. What would I do? First things first – if you know me, you know the absolute last thing I’d ever do is get a job. So how would I build a company? Mark Cuban wrote a great post yesterday entitled The Best Equity is Sweat Equity: There are only two reasonable sources of capital for startup entrepreneurs, your own pocket and your customers pockets. I personally would never even take money from a family member. Could you imagine the eternal … Continue reading

Not The Only Pure Adapt Blogger Anymore

I’ve really enjoyed my 2+ years of blogging. I’ve met a ton of great people, I’ve received a lot of “thanks, your site helped me” emails that make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, and it’s been a very therapeutic exercise for me. I think the inherit bias of seeing Pure Adapt through my eyes is a great thing because it shows how I feel about our company and our future. But there are three other partners, each equal owners, and sometimes I think my bias isn’t necessarily the best thing in the world for our “public” perception because … Continue reading

Becoming an Early Riser

I’m not a huge fan of “New Years Resolutions”. To me, NOW is the best time to start something new and waiting until New Years is stupid (side note: I’ve most likely developed my hatred for New Years resolutions due to the fact that I’ve had trouble getting a good workout in January or February at any packed gym I’ve been a member at for the last 10 years because everyone and their mother decides to get in shape on 1/1 and quits by Valentines day….quite frankly, it drives me nuts and I’m dreading my trip to the gym tomorrow … Continue reading
